Lady Blazers Defeat Red Devils in Four

Game Date

EAST JORDAN HIGH SCHOOL: 1

The Lady Blazers started league play on Tuesday night by visiting the Red Devils of East Jordan. The last time these two teams met, at a tri-event hosted by East Jordan, Kalkaska came out on the losing end of a three set match, 1-2. But Tuesday night was a different night, and despite being down two of their regular starters, the Blazers came out ahead 3-1, winning 28-26, 13-25, 25-18, and 25-22.

The first set was a back and forth affair that gave both teams an opportunity to win. But the Lady Blazers prevailed in extras, 28-26, despite being down 19-24 and 25-26. Lauren DeVol served the final two points of the first set and ended the night with 100% service. Game two belonged to the Red Devils right from the start, but the Lady Blazers stormed back in game three with a strong start thanks to the service of Baylee West, and a fantastic finish behind a powerful offense and consecutive serves by Lauren DeVol and Jordyn Disbrow.

The final game was another back and forth match that saw both teams tied at 20-20 and even had the Lady Blazers down 21-22 before Jordyn Disbrow, again, served the final few points to secure the win. As a whole, the team served just 85% but landed big serves when it mattered most.

Despite having ten stitches put in her hand from an injury on Sunday, Hannah Rhoades’ passing was nearly flawless. In fact, the entire back row played strong defense tonight, and the whole team played through every point turning potentially lost balls into fantastic saves. On top of strong service, Jordyn Disbrow had 14 kills and Lauren DeVol had double digit assists. Truly the night belonged to the whole team.

The Blazers travel to Boyne City, beginning with JV1 and JV2 both playing at 5:30, and the varsity girls begin at 7pm. Don’t miss an exciting night of Blazer volleyball as the girls continue their league schedule against the Ramblers.
