Tonight, the Kalkaska Blazers went head-to-head with the Kingsley Stags in an intense showdown. Both teams came in hungry for a win, and it showed in every possession!The first half was a nail-biter, with both teams trading buckets. But in the second quarter, the Blazers found their rhythm, surging ahead to take a 14-point lead into halftime.Kingsley wasn’t backing down. They came out strong in the third, turning up the pressure and forcing key turnovers. With just seconds left in the fourth, the Stags tied the game—setting the stage for a clutch moment. That’s when our Senior Guard, Hunter Semak, rose to the occasion, drilling a huge three-pointer with 9 seconds left to seal the 53-50 victory!The team was lead in scoring by Jackson Shetler with 18, Hunter Semak with 11, and Zachary Porter - 10. Tonight, our Blazers hit the road to face Grayling for our "Boxout Cancer" Coaches vs. Cancer game. It was a hard-fought battle from the start!First Half: The Blazers came out strong, even taking a 7-point lead at one point. But Grayling chipped away and closed the gap, ending the half down by just 1 point.Second Half: Grayling came out swinging in the third quarter, putting up 22 points. Despite our Blazers' best efforts, Grayling's strong second-half performance secured their lead.Final Score: Grayling 68, Blazers 50While we may not have gotten the win, we're proud of our team's effort and their part in supporting such an important cause. Tonight, the Kalkaska Blazers took on another formidable Northern Shores opponent, the Charlevoix Rayders. The game started off with a significant challenge for the Blazers, as they found themselves down 20-4 by the end of the first quarter. The Rayders' sharp shooters proved to be a formidable force, making it difficult for the Blazers to keep up.As the second quarter came to a close, the Blazers had managed to put up 14 points, but the Rayders extended their lead to 32 points. The halftime score stood at 32-14 in favor of Charlevoix.The second half saw the Blazers fighting hard to close the gap, but the Rayders' consistent shooting and strong defense kept them ahead. Night 2 of the Buckley Tournament didn't go as planned for the Blazers. The Marion Eagles' physical inside presence proved to be too much to handle, resulting in a tough loss. Tonight, the Blazers started the Buckley Holiday Tournament with an exhilarating 54-53 victory over the Manton Rangers! The Rangers came out red hot early in the game hitting shots from wherever they wanted.After being down by 15 at halftime, the Blazers mounted an incredible comeback, taking the lead in the final minutes. Their relentless defense sealed the deal, securing our first win of the new year!Great team effort with 9/10 players scoring! Let's keep the momentum going!

The Kalkaska Blazers secured a crucial away win against Farwell tonight, rebounding from last week's loss to Elk Rapids. The Blazers' defensive prowess was on full display in the first quarter, holding Farwell scoreless while putting up 14 points themselves.Farwell rallied in the second quarter, matching the Blazers with 10 points, but Kalkaska maintained a comfortable lead at halftime with a score of 24-10.The Blazers turned up the heat in the second half, dominating both offensively and defensively. They allowed Farwell only 8 points in the final two quarters, securing a decisive victory. The team shared the ball well with everyone scoring tonight  This win brings the Blazers' record to an even 3-3 as they head into the Holiday Break. The team will return to action on January 3rd for the Buckley Holiday Tournament.

In a highly anticipated conference matchup, the Elk Rapids Elks won against Kalkaska Blazers with a final score of 72-38. The atmosphere was electric as fans from both sides filled the stands, eager to witness the intense rivalry unfold on the court.From the opening tip-off, the Elks came out firing on all cylinders. Their sharp shooting and relentless offense set the tone for the game, leaving the Blazers struggling to keep pace.The Blazers fought valiantly to claw their way back into the game, but the ball just wouldn't cooperate. Shot after shot rimmed out, and the Elks capitalized on every opportunity, extending their lead with each possession.The Blazers were lead in scoring by Jackson Shetler with 13 and Zachary Porter with 12. The Blazers are on the road next week heading to Farwell before going into the holiday break.

It was another great team effort by the Blazers tonight. With only a short preparation time to get ready to take on the Brethren Bobcats, the Blazers came out on fire, scoring 35 points in the first half while holding Brethren to only 14 points. The Blazers prevailed with a final score of 60-44. Leading scorers were Zachary Porter with 13 points, Cade Ponstein with 12 points, Hunter Semak with 10 points and Jackson Shetler with 10 points

In their opening game of the Northern Shores Conference, Cheboygan came out firing, outscoring the Blazers 20-13 in the first quarter. The Blazers stormed back in the second quarter, scoring 19 points to Cheboygan's 16, leaving them down by only 4 points at halftime. The Blazers took the lead several times in the third and fourth quarters, but Cheboygan refused to go away. With balanced scoring from their guards and strong shooting, Cheboygan managed to stay in the game. The Blazers were blessed with great scoring, with 8 out of 10 players scoring, but they just came up short. Unfortunately for the Blazers, Cheboygan hit some key shots and free throws late in the game to seal their first Northern Shores Conference win. Blazers were lead in scoring by Jackson Shetler (22), Cade Ponstein (10), Brendon Piechocki (9), and Zachary Porter (9).

The Kalkaska Blazers kicked off their home opener with a thrilling victory against the Tawas Braves, with a final score of 70-45. The first quarter was a nail-biter, with the Blazers leading by just five points, 18-13.However, the Blazers turned up the heat for the rest of the game, outscoring the Braves in every subsequent quarter. They added another 18 points in the second quarter, followed by a dominant 21-point performance in the third. The Blazers sealed the deal with an additional 11 points in the final quarter.It was a true team effort for the Blazers, with every player on the 10-man squad contributing to the scoreboard. This unselfish play, focusing on ball movement and shared scoring, showcased the Blazers' strong team dynamics and set the tone for what promises to be an exciting season.

The track and field state finals was held on Saturday in Kent City.  Coltrane Paryani, Camden Moore, Adam Williams, and Gavin Guggemos placed 6th in the 4x800 relay for All State honor, running a season best time.  Gavin also won All State in the 800 with a 5th place finish, and in the 1600 with a 6th place finish, setting a new school record in that event with a time of 4:24.18. Congratulations! Myah Little ran a strong 400 race and Gabe Buyze-Prieto competed in the 110 hurdles. Both will be looking to return next season, and have a strong chance of doing so in at least one event.  All in all, this was an excellent track and field season with much improvement among all of the athletes.

Members of the Track and Field teams ran at the Record Eagle John Lober Honor Roll Invitational which brings together top athletes from Kalkaska, Grand Traverse, Benzie, Antrim, and Leelanau counties.  Gavin Guggemos won the 800 with a personal record of 1:57.84 The 4x800 team of Adam Williams, Coltrane Paryani, Camden Moore, and Gavin Guggemos finished second with a season best time.  Personal records were set by:  Cam Moore in the 1600 Coltrane Paryani in the 3200 Myah Little in the 400 and JaeAnn Davis in the pole vault Anna Martin ran a season best in the 3200 Also, congratulations to Coach Andy Henderson who received the Honor Roll Meet Legacy Award for his dedication to the sport of track and field.

The track and field teams competed at the last Lake Michigan Conference Championship meet in East Jordan last night. Charlevoix won the boy's meet, and Traverse City St. Francis won the girl's meet. The Kalkaska boys finished 5th and the girls finished 6th of 8 teams.  Gavin Guggemos earned All Conference First Team, and he will be the last Lake Michigan Conference Champion in the 1600, and in the 800, where he set a PR and broke two minutes.  Second place finishes and All Conference Second Team Awards were earned by Coltrane Paryani, Camden Moore, Adam Williams, and Gavin Guggemos in the 4x800 relay Myah Little in the 400 and the high jump third place finishes and All Conference Honorable Mention Awards went to JaeAnn Davis in the pole vault Ally Sutton in the high jump and Gabe Buyze-Prieto in the 300 hurdles Additional PRs were set by: Jonah Babbitt in the 400 Hunter Marvin tied his PR in the 100, Milena Milani and Giorgia Batt

The track and field teams competed at the regional meet yesterday. The boys and girls from Clare won both meets. The Kalkaska boys placed 6th and the girls tied for tenth of 16 teams. Top 8 in each event earned medals and all region honors Myah Little placed 2nd in the 400 with a PR and will be competing at the state finals, she also placed 5th in the high jump Gavin Guggemos was second in the 800, with a new PR, and second in the 1600. He will go to the the state finals in those events Guggemos, Cam Moore, Adam Williams, and Coltrane Paryani placed third in the 4x800 relay, and will advance to the state finals based on a qualifying time Kayden Dueweke-Gonzales, Gavin Guggemos, Jackson Shetler, and Cam Moore were 3rd in the 4x400 relay. The track and field teams competed at the East Jordan Invitational last night. The Weather was great and the osprey was on the fly as 21 teams assembled in large and small school divisions. In the large school division, Sault Ste. Marie's boys and girls placed first. The Blazer boys tied Ogemaw Heights for third place, and the girls finished 5th. The track and field teams competed in Boyne City last night at their invitational. The boys placed 6th and the girls placed 8th out of 15 teams attending, with Elk Rapids winning the boys and girls meets.  Gavin Guggemos won the 800 in a stellar race where he had to avoid getting boxed in by competitors. He came back a little while later to win the 3200. He PRd in both races.  Guggemos, Kayden Dueweke-Gonzales, Cam Moore, and Adam Williams placed 2nd in the 4x800 relay JaeAnn Davis was third in the Pole Vault. The 9th and 10th grade track and field teams competed at Harbor Springs yesterday.  The girls won the event ahead of Harbor Springs, and the boys took 4th of 8 teams.  Vanessa Hoppe, Alorrah Doty, Xiana Buyze-Prieto, and Kylee Robinson won the girl's 4x100 relay,  Jenna Mexico won won the shot put and was third in the discus with a new PR Carly Griffith won the long jump and was second in the shot put with a new PR Addy Novath was 3rd in the shot put, and Jaz Romans joined Novath, Mexico, and Griffith to sweep the top four spots in the shot. Romans also threw a PR Jackson Shetler was first in the high jump with a season record in that event, along with the 200 and 400, Jonah Weaver, Jackson Shetler, Jackson Arnold, and Carlos Morton-Clark won the 4x200 Alorrah Doty was 2nd in the 100 hurdles and set a season record in the 100 Abby Minion, Angela Rodriguez, Naomi Wilke, and Anna Martin were second in the 4x800.  Issaic Fisc

The track and field teams competed in Boyne City on Tuesday.
