GLEN LAKE: 1
Coming off a three game sweep of Harbor Springs on Tuesday night, the Lady Blazers were back in action Thursday hosting the Lady Lakers from Glen Lake.
The Blazers offense came out hitting on all cylinders in game one and Kalkaska jumped out to an early lead in what looked like a runaway game. But the Lakers, who beat the Blazers at a tri a few weekends ago, fought back and tied the game at 21. Kalkaska would not be denied, however, and they went on to win the first game, 25-23.
Game two started out as a flip of game one, when the Lakers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead. But the Blazers scrappy defense kept them in the game, and they shot back to tie the game at 8. From there it was a back and forth contest with neither team able to take a substantial lead. Down the stretch, big hits by the Blazers propelled them to another win, 25-23.
These two evenly matched teams took the court for game three and, as with the previous two games, their defenses continued to dig big hit after big hit, while their offenses continued to search for holes on the floor. Neither team could take a decisive lead but in the end the Lakers found a couple extra points and the Blazers fell short, 22-25.
Like the previous three games, game four was like watching two boxers swinging away, round after round, big hit after big hit. Tied at 17 both teams were digging deep, the Lakers were trying to survive while the Blazers were trying to put it away. At game point, leading 24-23, it would be Junior Mia Miller with a soft tip that fell on the floor on the other side of the court giving the Blazers the victory 25-23.
