CHARLEVOIX HIGH SCHOOL: 3

After a week off, the Kalkaska Blazer Varsity Volleyball team stepped back on the court Thursday night, hosting the Rayders from Charlevoix. Though the night was entertaining volleyball to watch, the Blazers came out on the losing end in straight sets 0-3 (19-25, 17-25, 12,25).

Game one was an exciting opening set, as both teams were delivering big hits, big digs, and great all-around team play. A couple of scoring runs by both teams kept the game close but Charlevoix’s last run pushed them across the finish line for the win. In game two, Kalkaska started slow but turned things around with a scoring run involving middle hits from sophomore Violet Porter and some strong back row attacks from junior Jordyn Disbrow. In the final set of the night, Charlevoix’s relentless attack wore down the Blazer’s defense and Charlevoix ended with the sweep.

Despite the loss, as usual, the Blazers still showed some outstanding play and the never-say-die attitude that keeps them in every single match they play. Juniors Kenzie Kniss and Jordyn Disbrow both served 100%, and fellow junior Lauren DeVol delivered several big kills from the front row.

The Blazers will have a light practice on Friday and then will host a Saturday tournament with Benzie, Glen Lake, Houghton Lake, and Joburg. Kalkaska will play its first game at 9am. Come on out and cheer these girls on!
