HARBOR SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL: 0

On a stormy night in Harbor Springs, the Kalkaska Blazers Varsity volleyball program took the long trek from Kalkaska to play the Rams in a best of five conference match. It  only took the Blazers three games to take care of business, 25-17, 27-25, and 25-20.

The Blazers started strong in game one, though they found themselves tied with the Rams at 14. But a consistent offensive attack led by junior Jordyn Disbrow helped Kalkaska create some separation and race to a 25-17 finish. Game two was a back and forth affair that saw Harbor on the brink of a victory, up 25-24 when Kalkaska found a way to grab three consecutive points to steal the win. Game three belonged to Kalkaska early on, and it looked like it might be a runaway, when Harbor Springs took advantage of a lengthy in-game delay to storm their way back in to a 20-20 tie. But Kalkaska served out the final five points and finished the three game sweep.

Junior Kenzie Kniss had yet another game with 100% service (along with Jordyn Disbrow and Baylee West) and five aces, adding to her impressive season in which she has only missed one serve. Senior Hannah Rhoades showed some strong net play with several big push kills deep into Harbor’s backcourt, while sophomore Violet Porter demonstrated dominance from the middle position leading the team with 8 kills; the team had a total of 32.

As usual, the Blazer defense was hard to score on. The back row was anchored by strong play including great digs by Junior libero Alli DeVol and good passing by senior Jacquelyn Scott. Maddy Wilkinson had several blocks at the net and overall, the Blazers played a complete game. The girls will have a big practice Wednesday after school as they prep for another conference game against M-72 rival, Grayling on Thursday night back home in Kalkaska. JV 1 and 2 will play at 5:30pm and the varsity girls will start at 7pm. Come on out and cheer on the Blazers as this team keeps improving with each match.
