The Kalkaska JV Lady Blazers basketball hosted the Lake City Trojans girls JV team for their game opener of the season December 3, 2019. It was a close game right up until the end, with the Blazers falling to the Trojans 27-24 in overtime.

Lauren Judd led the team with 9 points scored, followed by Julia Moore and Zoe Hilmert with 4 points apiece.  Baylee Reust contributed 3 points, Emily Koski and Lorelei Simkins both added 2 points apiece to help keep the Blazers score tight with the Trojans.

Reust tore down 6 rebounds, Judd and Moore 5 apiece, and Koski helped out with 4.

Errors and missed shots were key in the Lady Blazers falling to the Trojans. There were many steals during the game, and as we are early in the season, quite a few turnovers.  Many shots were taken, but the team just could not seem to get them to drop into the basket. The teams were tied at 22 at the end of the 4th quarter. The Trojans were able to add 5 during overtime; the Blazers only 2. 

Overall, it was a great first game of the season. The girls played hard, and with the Blazer girls’ basketball coaching staff leading them, they are in for a great season.
