Three young men represented Kalkaska at the State Finals at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan on Saturday, November 4, 2023
Gavin Guggemos placed 26th for All State (top 30) honors in 16:26.6, Camden Moore was 83rd in 17:13.2 (2nd fastest time of his career),and Adam Williams finished in 18:48.5 for 211th place. It was not the race he wanted, he felt off about a mile in. However, you can learn a lot about a person through adversity, and Adam handled his well, ultimately enjoying his last race of his high school career on the biggest stage. Well done, Adam.
All three qualify for Academic All State honors. Smart!
Great season for these boys and for Kalkaska Cross Country.
Thanks to those who made it down to watch and cheered us on at home.
We were held up on our way out of town by a cheeky swan. Gavin wanted to get it, but we said no! However, we did stop at Uncle John’s Cider Mill and he got to bounce with his sisters.
Jackson Lumen Christi won the D3 girls race with 140 points, Traverse City St Francis took 2nd with 177 points, and Elk Rapids finished 3rd with 190 points. Benzie Central finished 17th, and Clare placed 23rd. Jessica Jazwinski of Hart won the girls race in 17:08.8.
Traverse City St Francis won the D3 boys race with 113 points, St Louis was 2nd with 175 points, and GR Covenant Christian was 3rd with 209 points. Clare was 6th place, Charlevoix placed 15th, and Pine River was 24th place. Collin Farmer of Pewamo-Westphalia won the boys race in 15:39.1.
Our buddy Qwynn Darnell of Elk Rapids place 115th in 17:31.2 in his second appearance at the State Finals, and Brynne Schulte led the Lady Elks, taking 26th place in 19:12.3 for All State honors.
There was a lot of great racing from our part of the state, the Lake Michigan Conference, and D3 region 19. Congratulations to all who participated!
