Boys/Girls Varsity Track vs. Multiple Opponents

The Blazer track and field teams competed at the Regional meet on Thursday, May 15 in Charlevoix. The Elk Rapids girls and the Standish Sterling boys teams placed first overall of the 15 teams competing. The Kalkaska boys placed 10th and the girls placed 11th. Top eight finishers won medals, and the top two finishers in each event were guaranteed a place in the State Finals on June 31st.
The girls 4x800 team of Kara Olds, Aaliyah Hillier, Kylee Jenkins, and Edda Grusnick took first place with a new team PR, dropping 24 seconds for a time of 10:35.1, and will be going to the State Finals in Kent City! Congratulations ladies!
Edda Grusnick was was 4th in the 1600,
Aaliyan Hillier placed fourth in the 3200
Cade Ponsetin was 6th in the 100, and PRd in the preliminaries, then did it again in the finals
Kylie Robinson placed 6th in the 100 with a new PR, and set a season record in the 200
Jonah Weaver ran a PR in the preliminary round of the 200, and placed 6th in the finals
the 4x200 relay team of Jackson Shetler, Eli Smith, Carlos Morton-Clark, and Jonah Weaver placed 6th
the 4x100 relay team of Cade Ponstein Kenny Baker, Carlos Morton-Clark, and Jonah Weaver placed 6th
Jackson Shetler was 7th in the high jump and in the 400
Eli Smith ,Carlos Morton-Clark, Coltrane Paryani, and Jackson Shetler were 7th in the 4x400 relay
Ephraim Conway, Kaden Fischer, Alex Bontrager, and Tre' Bromley placed 8th in the 4x800 relay
Anna Martin, Allison Thompson, Kara Olds, and Edda Grusnick were 8th in the 4x400 relay
Personal records were set by
Owen McGlone in the 1600 and the 3200
Kara Olds in the 800
Rylee Haver in the 100 and 200
Hudson Cassio in the shot put, and
Owen Shetler in the 3200, breaking 13 minutes for the first time and finishing with his arms in the air
The Blazers will race again at the Northshore Conference meet on Wednesday, May 21 in Charlevoix
There will be no track and field practice tonight. Rest up!
Also, Coltrane Paryani won a rap battle with a kid from Elk Rapids! Truly, it was epic.
